About the Event
We'll be joined by Flo Garvey, founder of Sarratt Community Garden, and current composter in chief at Woodoaks farm ‘Compost Club’.
Soil health underpins all of Flo's efforts, which encompasses working with volunteers from the surrounding area and interns from local charity, Mission EmployAble, who have learning difficulties, and are hoping to find a route into paid work. Sarratt Community Garden grows organic fruit, veg and cut flowers for local people, as well supplying the 'training Café' at Mission EmployAble.
Composting has a huge range of co-benefits, including:
- Eliminating food waste (did you know food waste accoutns for 8-10% of human GHG emissions? 🤯)
- Enriching your soil
- Growing better plants
- Sequestering carbon
- And keeping fit!
In this workshop Flo will take us through a comprehensive look at compost and soil health:
- What to add to your compost heap
- How the composting process works
- The benefits of composting to people and planet
- How to treat your compost heap
- Different methods of composting
