About the Event

In this interactive and participatory talk (participation optional, you can just listen if preferred!), Suz Rogers dives into the fascinating world of human behaviour to uncover why people make the choices they do — and how we can leverage this knowledge to foster the positive changes that can help to drive a secure future for our young people and future generations.

In Surrey, we know that people overwhelmingly want to prioritise action on healthcare, environment and climate change. In fact in monthly polling by the county council these 3 priorities are consistently in the top 5 resident concerns, and only a tiny fraction of 5% of our fellow residents rate action on climate change and environment as 'not important', whilst 68% rate it 'extremely' or 'very' important.

Yet the numbers of people taking action on either the individual, political or community scale are significantly lower - why is this, and what obstacles are preventing people employing different behaviours?

Drawing on key insights from psychology and behavioural science, Suz will share practical tools and actionable strategies to help us apply our understanding of human behaviour in ways that inspire positive, impactful, and pro-environmental choices at the individual, community, and societal levels.

With environmental challenges mounting, it’s clear that humans are both the problem and the solution. By understanding the psychological drivers behind habits, resistance to change, and decision-making, we can begin to shift behaviors and mindsets that support a more sustainable world.  Whether you're looking to make a difference in your own life or to influence broader community behavior, you’ll come away with new insights and motivation to drive meaningful, eco-positive change.
